Victory For Catalonia As Madrid Tastes Election Defeat

Former Catalonia President Carles Puidgemont has announced victory of the Catalan Republic over Spanish government due to election results released.

Carles Puidgemont who made the declaration during the early hours of Friday from Brussels where he has been hiding due to arrest order by Spanish government referred to the election results as indisputable.

Recall that Carles Puidgemont was dismissed by the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy two months ago after he declared independence from Spain following a referendum on October 1, which was regarded as illegal.

Catalonia Parliament has 135 seats, requiring 68 seats for a majority. Thursday election saw secessionists parties winning 70 seats from election results released.

Puidgemont's Together for Catalonia (JxCat) party won 34 seats, the Republican Left of Catalonia took third with 32 and the far left anti capitalist Popular Unity Candidacy (CUP) picked up four- which made a total number of separatist party 70.

The anti-independence Citizens Party won the largest number of seats, 37, making it the largest party in the assembly.

Spanish leader had given a warning prior to the votes, mentioning that the new government must comply with the law or ''it knows what will happen ''.

This remark makes reference to Article 155 of the Spanish constitution, also known as the nuclear option.

Sadly the Spanish leader ruling Popular Party (PP) grabbed just three seats, falling from 11 it held before.
