Libyan Involved In Attack Against Egyptian Police Captured

Egypt’s Interior Ministry said on thursday, Libyan terrorist was involved in a recent deadly attack against police in a desert area on the outskirts of Giza province.

The militant was the only one who survived a security raid on Oct. 31, following two days of fighting from Oct. 20 that left 16 policemen dead and 13 wounded. One policeman was kidnapped, but was later freed by security forces.

The security crackdown in the nearby mountainous areas around the Western Desert near Al-Wahat highway left 15 militants dead.

The Libyan who was caught is called Abdel-Rahim Mohamed Abdullah Al-Mismary, and he lived in the Libyan city of Derna, Egyptian police said in a statement.

Al-Mismary, 25, formed a terrorist cell in Derna and sought to set up a training camp in the desert area near the outskirts of Giza in Egypt, the statement added.

“The elements of this terror cell managed to recruit 29 people from the provinces of Giza and Qalyubia who believe in extremist thoughts, to engage some of them in the cell and assign the others with logistic transmission and support,” the police said, adding that they were pursued and caught.
