US: Barack Obama Back On The Political Scene.
The Former US President Barack Obama made a notable appearance on Thursday in the buzz of election campaign meetings, denouncing the evolution of American politics, without mentioning the name of his successor.
In the shadows since his departure from the White House, Barack Obama has given Thursday, October 19, a foot in the political arena to support Democratic candidates at campaign meetings in New Jersey and Virginia.
He took the opportunity to deplore a political retreat, without naming his successor, Donald Trump .
"The current politics ... we thought we were done a long time ago ... People are fifty years behind us ... We are in the 21st century, not the 19th ..." he quipped. After attending a meeting in New Jersey to support the Governor-Democrat Philip Murphy, he traveled 500 km further south to Richmond, Virginia, for a rally in support of Ralph Northam.
More than six hours before his arrival, Democratic sympathizers, some of whom wore a t-shirt with their "hero", were already lining up to be sure to enter the room. Long overjoyed, Barack Obama called on voters to vote to "send a resounding message in all this beautiful country and in the world".
"If to win a campaign, we must divide the population, then we will not be able to govern it," he said, in a hidden subtext for the attention of Donald Trump. "Our value is highest not when we belittle people but when we try to raise everyone together," he added, referring to recent events in Charlottesville , the scene of a violent protest far-right activists gathered around a Confederate monument.
After three months of vacation, the former president began writing his memoirs, rarely spoke in public and gave virtually no interviews. The few times he broke the silence, he did so on topics of national importance, such as immigration, health coverage or the fight against global warming.
