Cardinal Barbarin will be tried in April for acts of pedophilia.
Father Bernard Preynat had been indicted in 2016 for sexual abuse committed until 1991 on young Scouts in the region.
This case had triggered a scandal over the attitude of the Church, leading the institution to adopt new measures to combat pedophilia.
The prosecution had launched an investigation parallel to failing to report abuse and failure to render assistance, aimed in particular Mgr Barbarin, discontinued on (1st August 2016).
But the plaintiffs did not want to leave it at that point and started the process of direct summons before the court, which ultimately led to a trial.
The Archbishop of Lyon, Suspected of having covered the actions of a pedophile priest and of having denounced him to justice, will appear from (4th April to 6th April 2018), before the 6th Criminal chamber of the Lyon Court.
In addition to the Primate of Gaul, the trial is aimed at the Archbishop of Auch Maurice Gardès and the Bishop of Nevers Thierry Brac de la Perrière, former members of the diocese of Lyon, and Luis Ladaria Ferrer, secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of faith in the Vatican.
