The two nations also signed heads of agreement for the supply of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Equatorial Guinea and the support regarding import infrastructure.

The agreements were signed as part of Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo’s official 3-day visit to Equatorial Guinea.

Both President Akufo-Addo and President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea expressed concern about the resurgence of tension on the continent and agreed on an urgent need to combat the growing threats of terrorism.

Multilaterally, both heads of state expressed their support to global and African initiatives for the prevention of and peaceful settlement of conflicts.

In a related development, Ghana’s Minister for Energy Boakye Agyarko said the supply of the gas from Equatorial Guinea would ensure stable state of power generation in Ghana.

He said the arrangements would bring in LNG that can be stored for 21 days and used accordingly to further improve Ghana’s power situation.

“At the conclusion of the arrangements, it is our faithful expectation that gas, as a feedstock, instead of crude oil, will be cheaper in terms of power production. This could mean that once the cost of producing electricity comes down, we will be in a further position to lower the user tariffs that our citizens pay for electricity,” he told the media after arriving from Equatorial Guinea.
