No anointed candidate for Buhari – Shettima
There is palpable tension in Anambra State, as human and vehicular traffic increased in the state capital Awka, with all the hotels in the city fully booked for the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election today.
Security personnel both in uniform and mufti were seen at strategic points in the state capital at the three designated venues for accreditation of the delegates: Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square and Emmaus House.
The Chairman of the Anambra APC Primary election panel and Borno State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shettima, yesterday, said that President Muhammadu Buhari has no anointed candidate for the November 18 Anambra governorship election.
Also, the Joint Security Team in the state has warned that it would deal decisively with any one no matter how highly placed that would want to cause trouble in the exercise.
Shettima, who spoke at the state police command when the joint security agencies led by the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Garba Baba Umar, had a meeting with the panel and the aspirants assured that the exercise in the state would be free, fair and scandal free.
Shettima stressed that every contestant for the APC governorship ticket in Anambra was important and “President Buhari being a democrat, believes in one person, one vote,” assuring that the primary election would be transparent.
Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of joint security agencies, Umar, warned that the team would not hesitate to deal with anybody that tries to foment trouble during today’s exercise.
He raised the alarm that the team had it on good authority that some of the aspirants had imported or planned to import some hoodlums to the state and lodge them in hotels, but assured that the joint security outfits were equal to the task of contending them and their thugs.
Umar however, advised any of the aspirants planning such to desist, as security men had been positioned in all the hotels and other flash points in the state to repel such moves.
